Case Study

Highways & Local Authorities A191 Silverlink

Installed in sections in 2017 and early 2018, Durakerb has been used along the kerb lines which transition through areas with variable function and risk. Highway environments like this are generally the toughest due to the volumes of traffic and frequency of accidental impact. Durakerb units are designed to blend with the traditional. They are designed to match the performance and aesthetic of standard kerbs therefore it is not evident to users that within this project, a considerable quantity of recycled and recyclable polymeric material is fixed within the kerb line, ready for future reclaim and re-use. The alignment and spacers mean the unit’s face to face contact is free of damage. The range of fittings now available allow install through pedestrian and vehicle crossings and most highway design features and structures. The most demanding of sections are generally at over-runs, external corners and at the main junctions and roundabouts. This project has a number of external corners and exposed junctions where impact is frequent and at speed.

Transport & EV Infrastructure Truro – Park & Ride

In 2015 Cornwall Council and the Duchy of Cornwall collaborated to add a second Truro Park and Ride site, this time on the east of the city to connect with the Langarth site finished in 2008. Durakerb has been installed along the access road into the site from the new junction on Union Hill and was inspected last year. The road is trafficked by both the customers cars and the buses that service the route. Our HAPAS/BBA certification has been in place since 2008 and unlike other recycled polymer products available on the market back in 2015, our units have proven durability in that they maintain their shape and performance over time in service. This Scheme received a CEEQUAL Excellent award (83%) sustainability rating with a SuDS system and balancing ponds around the site. With Durakerb recycled polymeric kerb saving 30,676 kg of carbon for every 1000mtrs of Durakerb installed, (PAS2050 – Sustain Ltd) this was a great choice for both sustainability and durability.

Transport & EV Infrastructure Dundee EV Charging Hub

These projects are a great example of change in action. Lightweight and recycled Durakerb has been designed and installed around the charging bays within the Dundee area. The full height HB and b/nose profiles together with pre-formed internal and external angles have been used to provide a precise finish and aesthetic. Durakerb makes the job of ground-working easier and safer and when a project comes to the end of its life, units can be reclaimed, re-used or re-made while also saving on over 30,000 kg of carbon per 1000m used, aiding the Scottish governments aim to cut carbon to zero by 2045. Durakerb provides a choice for designers and contractors to make things easier and safer for the workforce and for the environment, manufactured with 88% recycled material.
